JUNE

Upcycling T-shirts

Craft upcycler Penelope Quinn will show you how to update and overhaul your old t-shirts into something you'll love to wear.

What to bring:

  • A few t-shirts. The best are soft, good quality material that you can cut up or tye dye. It doesn't matter if they have a pattern on them, the most important thing is the quality of the fabric.
  • A pair of scissors
  • A needle and thread (black or white thread is best)
  • Your imagination

SEPTEMBER

Upcycling Jeans

Bring along your old jeans to this upcycling workshop where we will transform them into something completely new using a few simple techniques (no sewing maching required).

What to bring:

  • One or two pairs of jeans
  • A needle and thread (blue, black or white thread is best)
  • Any lace, beads or trimmings you have lying around)
  • A pair of scissors

OCTOBER

Sustainability Lane

Sustainability Lane is held as part of the larger Lane Cove Village Fair. Located on Burns Bay Road, the lane will showcase over 20 stall holders with inspiring and informative ideas on living clean and green. There will also be plenty of entertainment including a reptile show, roaming stilt walkers and live music.

NOVEMBER

Clothes Swap Party

This events gives you the chance to trade in the lovely clothes you no longer wear for something you will. Buttons, the currency for exchange, are issued when the clothing is brought in, and the exchange rate is one button per item.

Check in clothes at 10am

Swapping from 11am - noon

Fabric Gift Wrapping

Learn the beautiful and unique Japanese art of furoshiki - fabric gift wrapping. Reduce your waste this Christmas and surprise your family and friends with beautifully wrapped presents. Class size is limited to10 people.

Bring your own fabrics as well as gifts to wrap.

Size guide for fabric:

A fabric shopping bag: 90cm square

A CD: 45-50cm square

A paperback book: 45-50cm square

A standard wine bottle: 70cm square

Lane Cove Library has its very own Sustainable Community Collection to help inspire you to live more sustainably. The collection includes books, DVDs and magazines and with more items being added to the collection all the time you’ll be sure to find something of interest to you.

LIVE & LEARN LOCAL

Lane Cove Council supports the establishment of Live and Learn Local, a network which connects passionate people to emerging ideas in a fun, social environment.

VISIT PERMAPATCH COMMUNITY GARDEN

PermaPatch community garden aims to use sustainable organic gardening practices to encourage the spirit of co-operation, consultation and community pride amongst members of the local community.

Open days are held on the last Sunday of each month from 2pm – 5pm at the garden (located on the corner of Mowbray Road and the Pacific Highway). Further information is available at www.permapatch.org.au
