Levy funds are invested in maintaining the wellbeing, cultural diversity and creative spirit of the Lane Cove community. The Love Where You Live Lane Cove campaign continues to grow with complementary activities being run in every Council Division. Over the past 12 months the campaign has seen the production of the Discover Your Neighbourhood booklet and Welcome Packs as well as Neighbour Day postcards. The campaign saw the continued development of the Streetside Gallery through the Art Cycle events and subsequent Art Ride trail. One of the most exciting activities of the year was the People Make Places Lane Cove project which involved artists Leanne and Naomi Schedlezki. The artists engaged more than 350 locals in the task of creating a matchbox-sized artwork which reflected what they loved about Lane Cove. These works have gone on to tour across the globe and featured in a celebration exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove in August. Walk Around the World is a community fitness program that encourages people to incorporate more activity in their lives to reduce the risk of chronic lifestyle diseases. Walk around the World ran for the month of March and had 563 participants this year which is an increase of over 100 people from the previous event last year. Together the community walked 144,762,221 steps which equates to walking around the world 2.17 times. Participants who join the program pay a $20 registration fee and this is used to purchase exercise equipment for our local parks. Participants also receive a pedometer they can use to track their steps which can be used after the program has finished encouraging people to keep up their walking habits and goal setting throughout the year. With a Facebook page, events in the Plaza, walking groups and regular e-newsletters the program not only benefits the health of the individual but it also fosters community spirit and contributes to a more sustainable Lane Cove Community.
